My Dad is absolutely\u00a0the most optimistic person I have ever met.\u00a0 It is an adventure to simply be in his presence.\u00a0 I have been told I have his smile, and maybe I do.\u00a0 But, more likely, I think I have his inherent enthusiasm for life.\u00a0 I would normally\u00a0say “joie de vivre”, <\/em>but he’s not French\u00a0(neither am I) and he doesn’t go much for fancy talking.\u00a0 When I\u00a0say he is optimistic and enthusiastic, I mean\u00a0he absolutely expects the best possible outcome from any situation.\u00a0 This is a wonderful gift.\u00a0 With this knowing, the outcome may or may not be what you are hoping for, but there is a deep\u00a0trust that the Universe is in control and things are as they should be.\u00a0 He’s a terrible planner.\u00a0 Wait, maybe he’s a fantastic planner.\u00a0\u00a0He’s a “planner”\u00a0– but, you have to know that “the plan” will be changed numerous times.\u00a0 Details, phone calls, what if’s and everything affecting “the plan”.\u00a0 Maybe that makes him a really great planner?\u00a0 I don’t know.\u00a0 I have very rarely heard him speak badly of anyone.\u00a0 If he did, I can guarantee he or she really did do something to warrant his comment.\u00a0 He loves a good joke and can call up a dozen that apply to any given situation.\u00a0 He loves to laugh and he laughs with his whole face.\u00a0 His eyes light up, his mouth opens and out comes a sound of pure joy.\u00a0 I love to make my Dad laugh and he always laughs at my jokes, no matter how corny.\u00a0 Just as I have at his over my entire life.\u00a0 He has amazingly good luck.\u00a0 I believe this comes from the previously described expectation of goodness.\u00a0 When you are throwing around that much positive energy, a lot of it circles back to you.\u00a0 He looks for the good in people and\u00a0 when he witnesses otherwise, tends to forget.\u00a0 Seriously!\u00a0 He just doesn’t quite remember most “bad” things that happen, especially if some time has passed.\u00a0 We can talk about old ski trips and any sort of fun we have had but, the negative stuff is mostly just filtered out along the way.\u00a0 It’s really a great way to live your life.\u00a0 He’s generous, caring and smart (although he might disagree).\u00a0 If you have been a friend of my Dad’s for a while, he’s going to remember your birthday and call you on that day to wish you a Happy Birthday.\u00a0 If he loves you, he will sing.\u00a0 His life has not been without some pain.\u00a0\u00a0He lost his own Dad when he was in his early 30’s and\u00a0a\u00a0daughter, my older sister,\u00a0almost 5 years ago.\u00a0 But, he’s one of those people that make you think “Nothing bad has ever happened to this person” because that’s exactly\u00a0what he projects.\u00a0\u00a0I\u00a0love him and so do a whole lot of others.\u00a0\u00a0I just got really lucky<\/em> in the Dad Department.\u00a0 xo<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
