I love this cocktail.\u00a0 Let me qualify that:\u00a0 I love the version my husband makes.\u00a0 I love him, too.\u00a0 Even so, nobody makes a better Salty Dog.\u00a0 Today I share his technique with you.<\/p>\n

Start with fresh grapefruit.\u00a0 \"photo<\/a><\/p>\n

Four grapefruit will make about 3 drinks so plan your squeezing accordingly.\u00a0 The grapefruits!\u00a0 What did you think I meant??<\/p>\n

Squeeze the juice – I have a little juicer component on my favorite kitchen workhorse.<\/p>\n

It comes in super handy for this.\u00a0 \"photo<\/a><\/p>\n

To your favorite glass (this one\u00a0came from New Mexico and if it ever gets broken I will cry!) add crushed ice all the way\u00a0to the top.\u00a0 Add a squeeze of lime to the ice.<\/p>\n

To this, mix 1 part vodka to 3 parts freshly squeezed grapefruit juice.\u00a0 Finish with a couple of grinds of superfine fresh ground salt.<\/p>\n

Tink!\u00a0 (that’s the sound of the glasses clinking together)<\/p>\n

Note:\u00a0 You can make this drink with store-bought juice but, it’s not the same.\u00a0 If you do – omit the salt.\u00a0 Processed juice is\u00a0salty enough.\u00a0 If you use something like Ruby Red (from the non-refrigerated section) it will be much sweeter than the authentic, fresh version.\u00a0 If you must use bought juice, I recommend Simply Juice from the cold section of your store – it’s not the same, but will do in a pinch.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
